The Lordship and barony of Coldingham.

The assignation of the Lordship and Barony of Coldingham to Dr Peter Leando was completed on the 14th of December 2010 and the assignation was registered in the Scottish Barony Register (Volume 2 Folios 44-46) on that day.

Dr Peter Leando, Baron of Coldingham, petitioned the lord Lyon for a grant of arms and letters patent which was granted on 14th March 2012.

Argent, an abbey roofed of three pyramids Azure each ensigned of a cross pattee Or, on a chief wavy Azure a dolphin naiant Argent.

Above the shield is placed an helm befitting the dignity of baron aforesaid with a mantling Azure doubled Argent and on the wreath of the liveries is set for crest a schooner in full sail Proper flagged Gules. and in an Escrol over the same this Motto “FORTITER ET SAPIENTER”.

The Leando family arms depict the Hamilton tree for Lady Coldingham’s heritage, the galleon for the Barons seafaring heritage, a book depicting knowledge and learning for the academic background of both families and the five stars of the southern cross for navigation and the baron and baronesses five children. The ancient dolphins holding pearls of wisdom as supporters and the crest depicts St Aebbe.
